PLAY OFF's

The curtain came down on the Alan Myerscough Ulverston & District Bowling League with the end of season Play Offs. Barrow Island staged the First Division Play off whilst Lindal Moor played host to the Second Divion. In the case of the first Division it proved to be a successful day for Stewart Turnbull of Barrow Island as the home bowler claimed the title by beating King Alfred’s Steve Fullard. On his way to final he accounted for Rod Lewis (Glaxo) 21-7 in Round 1, Round 2 saw him beat John Reilly (Lindal Moor) 21-9. The Quarter Finals saw face fellow Barrow Island bowler Richard Allen prevailing 21-17 in the process before claiming his place in the Final in the tightest of games winning 21-20 against Lindal Moor’s Simon Perry. On his way to the final Steve beat Dave Pedley (Co-op S C) 21-19 in Round 1, he followed this with 21-16 win over Walney Park’s Paul Millburn in Round 2. The Quarter Finals saw a comfortable 21-9 against West Shores Dave Mellen before picking up a place in the Final courtesy of a 21-14 win in the Semi Final against Walney Park’s Daniel Davey. In the Final Turnbull continued in the impressive manner which had taken him to the FFinal whilst unfortunately Fullard struggled for a length which resulted in playing catch up as Turnbull closed the game out at 21-8. In the Division 2 event Paul Clark of Ulverston Cons ‘A’ beat Paddy Hannigan of the Kings Head, this gave the Clark family the double as 11year old Keiron had already taken the Division 2 Merit award. On his way to the Final Paul beat Lindal’s Ronnie Barclay 21-14 in round 1 followed by a 21-14 defeat of Hawcoat Park’s Mike Bowyer. In the Quarter Final he beat fellow clubman Dave Nicholson of Ulverston Cons 21-18 before securing his place in the Final with a 21-12 win over Dalton Crickets Richard Sharples. His opponent in the final Paddy beat home bowler Dave Bennett of Lindal 21-14 in Round 1, followed by a 21-9 win against Red River’s Keith Roebuck. The Quarter Finals saw him facing Roose Cons Dave Turnough prevailing 21-14 before securing his place in the Final with a 21-16 defeat of Steve Nott from the Police. In the Final it was nip and tuck with the score after ten ends ten each, but after a further ten ends the score stood at 20-10 to Clark as he closed out with final chalk required to take the title. The trophies were presented by Nigel Myerscough on behalf of the sponsors Alan Myerscough Ford Limited.
